One of Cary’s oldest shopping centers is now one of its freshest

For a long time, Cary’s Waverly Place languished.

The retail and professional center sat out-dated at an intersection that saw tens of thousands of cars a day, typically a sure bet of success for a retail development.

Then again, that was most likely the problem: everyone just drove right by it. Of course, its dated look and empty store fronts may not have helped.

A couple of years ago, a new owner had a vision to renovate not just the facade, but the reputation of the well-placed but clearly forgotten retail destination.

That vision has reached fruition.

Rebranded from top to bottom, Cary’s Waverly Place is once again a place to be in the Triangle. New stores. Intriguing eateries. Outdoor events. No doubt, one of Cary’s longest standing districts has come a long way.

Last week the Waverly Place Farmer’s Market opened. It will provide local foods every Saturday morning until October. A local club of European motorcycle brand enthusiasts holds monthly gatherings here.

On May 15 & 16, the second annual Play Fore Kay Yow golf tournament and benefit concert will be hosted at Waverly Place.

There seems to always be something happening here. What a difference a few years makes.

Naturally, nearby homeowners are thrilled to once again have a sought-after shopping center within walking distance. It makes the neighborhood that much more of a community.

If you get the chance, stop back to Waverly Place. It’s not the place it once was. Or ever was.
