Triangle To-Do: Downtown Raleigh Winterfest

Every year, the City of Raleigh and the Downtown Raleigh Alliance celebrate the colder months and warmer season with a two-month long series of events and attractions in and around our capital city’s growing and ever-vibrant walkable corridor.

This weekend, things kick off at City Plaza with the tree lighting on Saturday, December 6, from 3:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. There will be ice skating and a gingerbread house competition for the kids, while the adults can enjoy an all-day live music celebration or the acoustic players in the Beer Garden. There is also a Community Arts Stage with dance teams and performances, including two from local schools Cardinal Gibbons High School and Banks Road Elementary.

Throughout the ten-week event, families can also enjoy carriage rides, a sledding hill, and a number of other kid-oriented attractions. (What child under 50 can resist a bounce house?)

The Raleigh Winterfest is free each weekend, however the ice rink (which is real ice) does cost $9.00, but that include skate rental.

So if the holiday shopping has you worn out already and the house is decorated with its last drape of tinsel, take some time to head to Downtown Raleigh for the 2014-15 Winterfest.
