Technically, summer has another few weeks. But we all know that football means its fall, and that time is now.

In just about an hour of this post, Wake Forest is set to kick-off the 2014-15 ACC football season. This weekend, the rest of the area’s teams get after it with NC State taking on Georgia Southern at home in Carter-Finley, Duke is set to play Elon and UNC-Chapel Hill is poised to battle Liberty.

Without doubt, this is one the best times of year here in the Triangle. The rivalries heat up as fast as the grills but the fightin’ words are usually easily quelled when the BBQ and slaw get passed around. The first few weeks will find tailgaters shading themselves from the sun-searing heat of a southern September but come October, there are few finer places to be for an afternoon of football than somewhere in central North Carolina.

Whatever color you fly on your car bumpers and porch flags, there will always exist an unspoken camaraderie when it comes to ACC football games. Yes, everyone wants their affiliation to earn the bragging rights but after the final whistle, everyone is still plenty happy to have just spent an afternoon tailgating, cheering and catching up with folks they hadn’t seen since last season.

It’s time for football.
