Triangle To-Do: Downtown Raleigh Movie Series; held until June 27

Even though a lot of us lament the downfall of the drive-in movie theater, watching movies outside is still a very popular event for cities, neighborhoods and various public venues. It makes sense then, that PNC has backed a summer-long event series featuring—you guessed it—watching movies outside.

Every Friday until June 27, PNC is sponsoring the Downtown Raleigh Movie Series. It’s held on the 400 block of Fayetteville Street and the while the night begins at 5:00 p.m. the movie reel spins at sundown. There are some chairs available if you get there early enough, but it’s recommended to bring your own. What a cool idea.

Before the movie starts, local bands jam to entertain the early birds and post-work crowd. Here’s the schedule for the remainder of the events per the Downtown Raleigh Movie Series website.

Friday, June 6
Band: Outside Soul
Movie: Last of the Mohicans

Friday, June 13
Band: Urban Soil
Movie: Hunger Games

Friday, June 20
Band: Laura Reed Band
Movie: Iron Man 3

Friday, June 27
Band: Morning Brigade
Movie: Full Frame Documentary Film Festival Roadshow

Notice a theme with the movies? They were all shot primarily in North Carolina.
