Blount St. in Downtown Raleigh is the new home of Stanbury, a multi-faceted restaurant dedicated to offering an array of unique plates and traditional southern fare. It’s located at 938 N. Blount in the space where Market once served. The restaurant opened Tuesday of this week.

Slowly and now assuredly, Raleigh is becoming a great restaurant city. This wasn’t the case a few years ago. Not only has the general rebuilding of Downtown helped us reach this point, we now have an ever-expanding sphere of influence within local chef circles. An assistant starts out at one place and in a few months is out on their own in a new kitchen down the street. The competition is good for business, and it’s good for the patrons.

Stanbury was started by three locals with success in the bar and kitchen biz and a chef who created a highly successful restaurant in Asheville called The Admiral. (Stanbury has yet to launch its website but its Facebook page is active.)

The restaurant’s bar will surely help draw customers as well, as its creativity will not be lost on daring drinkers.

With a wild mix of seafood, poultry, pork and industry expertise, Stanbury has all the makings of becoming a Downtown favorite.

Check it out this weekend.
