Triangle To-Do: Friday Night Tributes at North Hills

The North Hills area of Raleigh has grown so fast over the last quarter-decade or so that it earned itself a geographical identifier, “Midtown.”

Thanks to the efforts of developer John Kane and the number of businesses and residents who recognized his vision, the stop-over between Downtown Raleigh and North Raleigh once defined by an outdated mall has become a local hotspot for shopping, dining, living, and of course, entertainment. For evidence of that, stop by on September 6 for the first of many “Friday Night Tributes,” concerts that will pay homage to some of our most noteworthy musical acts.

Next Friday, the series opens up with Johnny Cash tribute players The Johnny Folsom 4. On September 13, Jimmy Buffett will echo in the sounds of the Coconut Grove Band. Parrot Heads everywhere will surely make the most of it.

Concerts will start at 7:00 and end at 9:00. More than likely, a lot of people will stick around after the lights go down.

The weekly block party will rock on every Friday until October 11, harkening back to the classic “Alive After 5” events outside the convention center in Downtown, well before it was the Downtown we recognize today. In short, there’s a built-in audience for these North Hills events and the crowds are sure to be lively.

Come on out to Midtown next Friday. Summer isn’t over yet.
