This weekend, Saturday, July 13, you’ll have the chance to celebrate with the entire State of North Carolina as part of theĀ 2nd Saturday celebrations presented by the North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources.

On each second Saturday of June (8), July (13) and August (10), the state collectively holds an array of events at different historical sites and museums, from the mountains to the sea. For example, this weekend you can visit Southport to learn about the Tar Heel State’s history with Pirates (which is quite prevalent) or head to Downtown Raleigh’s State Capitol building for a photography class taught by a Smithsonian and Harvard-educated architectural photographer.

North Carolina has had a tremendous influence on the formation of our country, something that most of us are not always fully aware of until events like these get publicized.

Families are highly encouraged to involve the kids and almost all events are free.

Go do something different this weekend!
