The Carolina Railhawks professional soccer team continues to be a summer tradition for Triangle-area families, providing the impressive local soccer contingent the opportunity they need to cheer, vent and of course, heckle from the end-line. It’s a great time.

This year, the opportunities are even bigger as a stadium expansion and upgrade has been completed and is ready for the crowds.

New locker rooms were installed, as well as more seats on the north end. Team facilities were upgraded and few new rooms were added to accomodate the number of administrative functions that are handled within the stadium, which often hosts college and other professional soccer events.

The Railhawks are underway with the 2013 practice season, having played exhibition matches in February and earlier this month. Games begin in earnest come April when the team opens on the road against Tampa. They open at home on April 13, at 7:00 p.m. against FC Edmonton, which will also mark the grand opening of the new WakeMed Soccer Park.

On March 20, the Railhawks broke an attendance record when more than 8,000 fans descended upon Cary to watch the Hawks fall in a close one to¬†Pumas UNAM of Mexico. If that crowd is any indication of what lies ahead for the 2013 season, there will be little doubt that we’ll have the best home crowd in the North American Soccer League.

Tickets are available for the April 13 match and grand opening event on the Carolina Railhawks web site.
