The end of this year, or by early 2014, should provide Apex residents with yet another terrific recreation opportunity. While it currently lacks a formal name, the Apex Nature Park, as of now, has been approved for construction and formal plans have been posted on the town’s website. It will be located along Evans Road where it meets Apex Barbecue Road.

Chances are good that some aspects of the project will change between now and finalization, but the Apex Nature Park is expected to include a dog park, frisbee golf course, lighted tennis courts, lighted soccer fields and an amphitheater/classroom facility, among other amenities  Thus, this is an exciting project and those in charge did the right thing to greenlight it.

Urban parks are a terrific draw for the Triangle. We have a lot of active citizens and no trail or walkway goes un-used, so we can rest assured this park will see plenty of footprints. Also, soccer is very popular here, as evidenced by the Capital Area Soccer League, one of the nation’s largest youth soccer leagues. Having another field, especially one that is lighted, is a terrific benefit for Apex kids and families.

Let’s not forget the impact park projects like this have on real estate. Who wouldn’t want to live within walking distance of a park like this?

A few weeks ago, the City of Raleigh reached a deal with the state to lease the land of Dix Hospital for the purpose of creating a large city park. Combined with the Apex Nature Park, Cary’s Lake Crabtree County Park and of course Umstead State ParkTriangle residents will have their choice of outdoor recreation locations. Just pack the car, pick a direction and go.
