Could an MLS team land in Cary?

On Thursday of this week, tomorrow, April 12, a representative from Major League Soccer’s expansion committee, Mark Abbott, and Vice President of the Carolina Railhawks, Aaron Davidson, will be at Backyard Bistro off of Trinity Road to solicit feedback from area fans about the possibilities of a top division team coming to the area. Also joining them will be Commissioner of the North American Soccer League, David Downs.

The point of the public forum is to listen to what Triangle area soccer fans would like to experience in professional soccer. There is no question the community is ready for either another team, or the Railhawks’ maturity into a top-level national team. With Raleigh being the second fastest growing city in America and the sheer number of sports fans in the area, there is little question about the economies in place to support such an effort.

If our region is named an expansion location, it would probably take a couple of years to get the team in place. Let’s hope for the best. If you have time tomorrow, head on out to the event. This could be really exciting!

The meeting is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at the Backyard Bistro.
