Cary, Triangle becoming retirement destination

There is a trend in retirement living that is bringing more and more active adults to Cary and other Triangle-area communities. It’s called “half-backing” and basically defines older Americans, many from the Northeast, who initially started their retirement living in Florida but found their way “back” to North Carolina, which offers a more seasonable climate, as many amenities (if not more) and a more accessible locale for family visitors.
As a result of this growing population in the region, a number of terrific active adult communities have been developed, many of which personify “the good life.” Subsequently, trends are also indicating that more older adults are settling here first, not even making it all the way to the Sunshine State.
Triangle developers and real estate professionals have demonstrated keen insight into national demographic trends by creating actual lifestyle opportunities for baby boomers and retirees, not just quiet campuses with a hospital feel, like in decades past.
These outstanding neighborhoods are not your grandfather’s “retirement home.” Today’s post-worklife communities offer walking trails, fitness facilities, on-campus entertainment options, libraries, multiple dining venues, pools, on-site medical care and observation and transportation options to many of the Triangle’s attractions. It’s like college life for retired adults.
We’re going to use some of our blog space in the next few weeks to highlight a few of these neighborhoods. Hope you enjoy reading about them.
