We’re suckers for good news about Wake County schools. And there is usually plenty of it.

The Cary News published a noteworthy interview with music teacher Todd Miller at Apex High School. Miller teaches a number of courses at Apex but is known for convincing his principle to take a risk on creating an individual program of classes for the guitar. It quickly became a hit, attracting well over one hundred students its first semester.

Miller correctly associates the strong connection between music and success in math and science. The inherent mental disciplines required to play music are what also underlie a student’s propensity to contemplate math and science concepts.

We hope you have a chance to read this brief article and share it with some friends. The more we recognize our teachers and schools for their successes, the better it is for our community.
