First Friday occurs the first Friday of every month in RaleighDowntown Raleigh’s First Friday has become one of the city’s most frequented events, even for those who may not consider themselves aficionados of the outstanding artwork that it showcases.

On the first Friday of each month, a number of galleries and museums in Downtown open their doors from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. to invite the public to tour, appreciate and celebrate the continually flourishing arts environment within the City of Oaks. Local restaurants and retailers provide support as well by offering First Friday discounts and specials and there is also live music at many of the participating venues, which number close to 70!

Here is a list of the galleries open for First Friday. And, after your self-guided tour, you can join friends or other arts patrons at a wide array of food and drink establishments that include some of the most reputable eateries in the city, including The Cardinal Club, Cafe Luna, Solas and Tir na nOg Irish pub.

The First Friday tour is an easy route to follow, mapped as a loop around the core of the city. It’s probably best to complete the loop over the course of a few events each month.

Downtown Raleigh has experienced quite an awakening in the last five years, becoming an outstanding center for arts and entertainment, from events like First Friday to a very large number of new restaurants and bars. Each district of the city (Warehouse, Glenwood South, Moore Square, Fayetteville Street, etc.) has blossomed on its own and it shouldn’t be long before they become one, fusing Raleigh into one of the most highly sought after and livable destination metros on the East Coast.
