Park West Village will be great for Cary and Morrisville

Park West Village in Morrisville, NC

Maybe it’s us, but sometimes it’s kind of hard to discern where Cary ends and Morrisville begins. The two municipalities’ borders seem to ebb and flow with another in a number of areas. One zigs while the other zags. Road names don’t change and police cars and fire trucks often pass one another. (However, Morrisville is underway with a large-scale plan to better establish its identity in the Triangle.)

Come late 2011, the two areas will have yet another commonality in the form of the 95-acre mixed-use center called Park West Village. The long-awaited commercial development project is situated on the corner of all things Cary & Morrisville: NW Cary Parkway and Chapel Hill Road (Highway 54).

The Triangle has been nationally recognized for its business growth over the last two decades and specifically, it’s ability to attract national businesses. Despite that, this highly visible parcel of land sat in development limbo for much longer than just about anyone expected, even as the Preston neighborhood and a number of terrific retail centers blossomed around it.

After the pharmaceutical company that once occupied the corner sold the parcel, the building was scraped and the remaining cone of rubble and dirt served as an ugly harbinger that nothing would get done for quite a while.

Thankfully, 2011 is changing all that. The lot has been now been cleared and the tens of thousands of cars that stop at the intersection every day are attracted by the din of construction vehicle reverse signals. Progress is once again underway in the Triangle. In a big way.

Park West Village, being built by Casto Lifestyle Properties and Cary-based 1st Carolina Properties, will be anchored by Target. The park-like development will come to life in easier-to-finance sections of retail and restaurants that will include TJ Maxx, Dress Barn, Qdoba Mexican Grill, New Japan Express and an Omaha Steaks location.

The later sections of Park West Village will include 255 residential units and additional retail.

Citizens of Morrisville and Cary will no doubt pack the newest addition to the neighborhood, regardless of which zip code is on the official mailing address. We are certainly excited about it, as it’s only a couple of miles from where we live. And there is little doubt that it will add to the attraction of both towns, providing a number of new reasons to move here.
