The 2010 Wake County Parade of Homes is underway

The 2010 Parade of Homes is underway! And this year, it’s an event catering to a much broader spectrum of home buyers than in recent years, when as many as 40 homes were over the $1 million mark. This year, only two of the 187 homes selected surpass the seven-figure benchmark.

This is the 45th year of the Wake County tradition, which is organized and sponsored by the Home Builders Association of Raleigh and allows prospective home buyers and those seeking decorating ideas the opportunity to tour homes in the area.

The event started yesterday, October 2, and continues today and for the next two weekends, October 8-10 and 15-17. Homes are open to the public between 12:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. each day.

The event’s focus this time around is reflective of the market to be sure, showcasing smaller, reasonably priced homes that are more energy-efficient and easier to maintain. The hope is that the event will encourage prospective home buyers to realize just how much value there is in our area’s real estate market. Few metros nationwide can provide families the same mix of lifestyle and affordability that is collectively offered by Cary, Apex and Raleigh.

New for this year’s event is an iPhone App that describes and locates the participant homes via Google maps. The app also allows users to search homes by size, neighborhood, builder and watch videos of selected properties. Pretty sweet. In the App Store in your iTunes account, search “Wake County Parade of Homes.”

Oh, and the best thing about this Parade? No Shriners.

(Sorry, couldn’t resist.)
